Kaley Hayes is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Health Services, Policy and Practice at Brown University, with a secondary affiliation at the Providence VA Medical Center. She holds a PharmD from the University of Pittsburgh (2017) and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Toronto (2021). Her research focuses on optimizing medication use for chronic conditions in older adults using real-world evidence, with a focus on osteoporosis, dementia, cardiovascular diseases, and long-term care settings.
Her work employs advanced pharmacoepidemiologic methods and causal inference to evaluate drug safety, comparative effectiveness, and policy impacts on healthcare utilization. Key research areas include osteoporosis drug holidays, anticoagulant use in nursing homes, and vaccine coadministration in aging populations. Hayes has secured over $6.4M in research funding as Principal Investigator from the National Institute on Aging and Canadian Institutes for Health Research.
Teaching responsibilities include PHP 2440 - Introduction to Pharmacoepidemiology. Collaborations involve experts like Francesca Beaudoin (Epidemiology), Stefan Gravenstein (Geriatrics), and Vincent Mor (Health Services Policy). Her research has produced over 50 peer-reviewed publications, emphasizing drug policy, deprescribing strategies, and outcomes in long-term care environments.
Notable contributions include guideline development for osteoporosis management in Canada and analyses of disparities in COVID-19 vaccination uptake among older adults. Current studies explore post-acute care optimization for hip fracture patients and electronic health record applications in biosimilar uptake assessment.
