Kaja Abbas

Kaja Abbas is an Associate Professor at Nagasaki University's School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health and holds a joint position with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Dynamics. Her work focuses on vaccine impact modelling to estimate health, economic, and equity impacts of vaccination programs across global, regional, and national levels.

• Supporting evidence-based decision-making for vaccine policy
• Modelling disease burden and vaccine impact across diverse settings

Her extensive publication record demonstrates expertise in modelling vaccine impact for diseases including Nipah, Chikungunya, typhoid, HPV, and antimicrobial-resistant bacteria. Her work frequently employs systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and mathematical models to evaluate vaccine effectiveness across different geographic contexts and socioeconomic conditions.

• Health and economic impact of integrated nutritional activities to increase vaccination coverage in Chad and Niger (2024-2027)
• Barriers and solutions to reaching zero-dose and under-vaccinated children in Ethiopia and Nigeria (2023-2027)

Dr. Abbas serves on the UK Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) from 2025-2028 and teaches courses in Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, Modelling and the Dynamics of Infectious Diseases, and Advanced Methods of Policy Analysis. She collaborates with multiple research centers including the Global Health Economics Centre, Centre for Epidemic Preparedness and Response, Vaccine Centre, and Centre for Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases at LSHTM.
