Kaitlin Hill

Kaitlin Hill is a faculty member at St. Mary’s University in the Department of Mathematics, where she has worked since 2022. She previously held postdoctoral positions at Wake Forest University and the University of Minnesota.

Hill’s research focuses on applied dynamical systems and mathematical modeling, particularly in geophysical and social systems. Her work explores bifurcation and tipping behavior using tools from variational calculus, stochastic processes, and differential equations (ODEs, SDEs, PDEs). She is especially interested in systems with piecewise-smooth dynamics and their implications for climate change and equity studies.

Recent publications analyze Arctic sea ice dynamics, gender dynamics in professional hierarchies, and permafrost methane release. Her methodological work on stochastic differential equations and bifurcation theory provides frameworks for understanding abrupt transitions in complex systems.
