Kaijo Rüütsalu is a Junior Research Fellow in Psychology at the University of Tartu, Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of Psychology, with a focus on affect regulation in health behavior. They are currently pursuing a PhD under the supervision of Andero Uusberg and hold a Master's degree in Psychology from the University of Tartu (2023), awarded cum laude.

Kaijo's research interests center on health psychology, particularly the psychological mechanisms involved in affect regulation and how these influence health-related behaviors. Their Master's thesis explored the influenceability of colorectal cancer screening participation through health belief model-based messaging. Current work includes projects like the Estonian Center of Excellence of Well-Being Sciences (2024–2030), where they contribute to understanding emotion regulation and health behavior dynamics.
Their recent publication in 2022 addressed the use of nudging methods to support gender-neutral career choices and workplace conditions, reflecting interdisciplinary interests in behavioral science and public health. Kaijo has participated in grants such as the Estonian Research Council-funded project PSG525 (Psychological mechanisms of emotion regulation with reappraisal, 2020–2024) and Ministry of Social Affairs projects on nutritional counseling and men's healthcare usage.
