Kai van de Loo

Kai van de Loo serves as Honorary Professor and Lecturer in Economics at THGA (Technische Hochschule Georg Agricola), where he has taught Principles of Economics for Industrial Engineers since 2007. Concurrently, he acts as Senior Consultant at THGA's Post-Mining Research Center. His professional background includes 28 years at Gesamtverband Steinkohle eV (GVSt), culminating in the role of Chief Economist.

His research examines structural transformations in coal-dependent regions and post-mining economic systems, with policy applications through EURACOAL committees and EU transition initiatives. Professional engagements include:

• Chairman of EURACOAL's Post-Mining Working Group (since 2018)
• Executive Committee member for EURACOAL Energy/Environment Policy
• Board positions in German statistical and energy-balance organizations
