Kai Zhang is a postdoctoral researcher and Psychology Program Coordinator at the Institute of Sustainability Psychology (ISP), Leuphana University of Lüneburg, where he is affiliated with the Department of Social and Political Psychology (SPP) and the Negotiation Research Group (NRG).
He earned his doctoral degree in Psychology from the Free University of Berlin, establishing his foundation in experimental and cross-cultural research methodologies.
Dr. Zhang's research centers on Sustainability Psychology, investigating sustainable behavior, collective action for sustainability, and motivation for self-regulation in environmental contexts. His Negotiation Psychology work examines social capital dynamics in transformation negotiations, psychological processes in social dilemmas with externalities, and how cultural background/social identity influence economic versus social capital preferences. Additional expertise spans interdependence, social conformity, positivity biases, fear memory, and cross-cultural differences, utilizing fMRI and TMS techniques.
As Program Coordinator, he oversees curriculum development for Bachelor's and Master's Psychology programs, emphasizing societal applicability and cross-cultural generalizability of research outcomes.
