Kai Yui Samuel Chan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics at Occidental College. His research focuses on individuals and communities traversing state borders, particularly through the lens of self-determination for colonized, indigenous, and exiled peoples.
- Education: B.Soc.Sc. from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, M.Sc. in Political Theory from The London School of Economics and Political Science, and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Research Interests span political theory, transnationalism, and methodological approaches to understanding entangled political communities. His current book project, Entangled Peoplehood, reinterprets self-determination in the context of global nation-state dynamics.
