Dr. Kai Xun Chan is a Group Leader and ARC DECRA Fellow at the Australian National University's Division of Plant Sciences. His research focuses on plant cell communication mechanisms under environmental stresses, particularly chloroplast-mitochondria-nucleus signaling during oxidative stress and sulfur metabolism regulation. He has held prestigious fellowships including FWO, Marie Curie, and Westpac awards.
Education: BSc (Biotechnology, ANU, 2010) with First Class Honours and University Medal; PhD (Plant Sciences, ANU, 2015).
Research Interests: Retrograde signaling pathways, sulfur assimilation during stress, and chemical biology approaches to manipulate signaling proteins. His work bridges fundamental biology with agricultural applications, including drought-resistant crop development.
Awards: 2017 ACT Scientist of the Year, 2017 ACT Young Tall Poppy, ANU JG Crawford Medal (top graduate award).
Grants: ARC DECRA, FWO, EU Marie Curie, and industry funding via Westpac and ANU-UC Connect Ventures. Active in reviewing for top journals like Plant Cell and Plant Physiology.
