Kai Ou is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science at Florida State University, affiliated with the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy. He holds a Ph.D. in Politics from New York University (2016). His research focuses on behavioral choice patterns using theoretical and experimental methods, with emphases on institutional effects on behavior, voting/elections, religion, and intergroup competition. He teaches courses in behavioral political economy, game theory, and quantitative methods.
Key research areas include the intersection of analytical thinking with prosocial behavior, the role of social information in campaign giving, and mechanisms driving political inequality. His experimental work bridges cognitive science, economics, and political theory to dissect causal relationships in decision-making processes.
Publications span 2015–2024, reflecting trends in experimental validation of political behavior theories, with recent work emphasizing racial dynamics in political participation and the impact of religious prohibitions on economic decisions. His research has been published in journals like European Economic Review and European Journal of Political Economy.
Dr. Ou’s teaching responsibilities include graduate-level methods courses and undergraduate political economy. He maintains an active research agenda exploring intergroup coordination, identity-based voting, and the application of formal models to real-world political phenomena.
