Prof. Kai Lehmann is a Visiting Professor of Model Design, Pattern Making, and CAD in the Integrated Design program at Bremen University of the Arts. He holds a dual role as a fashion industry professional and academic leader, combining over two decades of experience in high-end menswear design with academic research. His career includes roles at Vivienne Westwood (1994-2002), where he developed the Gold Label women's collection and MAN men's line, followed by international teaching at the Royal College of Art (2000–2002).
He leads the Masterstudio Human, Fashion and Society alongside Professors Dorothea Mink and Ursula Zillig, focusing on interdisciplinary fashion education. His research explores the cultural evolution of menswear, particularly the suit's significance, and bridges historical tailoring traditions with contemporary gender studies. Key projects include the internationally awarded magazine Der schöne Mann and the From Tracksuit to Jumpsuit exhibition.
Teaching responsibilities include Getting Ready - Fashion, Body, Convention workshops and supervision of MA thesis projects. Awards highlight his contributions to fashion education and curation, including ADC Bronze (2014) and Art Directors Club Gold (2012).
