معرفی
Prof. Kai Heimel is an Adjunct Professor of Microbial Cell Biology at Georg-August-University Göttingen since 2018. Previously, he held a Junior Professorship in Microbial Cell Biology (2012–2018) and served as a Guest Professor at the University of British Columbia (2019). His research focuses on fungal pathogenesis, specifically how pathogenic fungi like Ustilago maydis communicate with plant hosts. Key interests include the unfolded protein response (UPR) pathway's role in virulence regulation and plant-fungal interaction dynamics.
- Educations:
- PhD (Dr. rer. nat.), Philipps University Marburg (2010)
- Postdoctoral training at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (2010–2011)
- Diploma in Biology, Philipps University Marburg (2005)
His lab investigates UPR signaling networks, pathogenic development, and quantitative control of virulence. Research highlights include uncovering UPR's role in suppressing plant defenses and regulating secreted virulence factors. His work bridges molecular mechanisms with ecological interactions in fungal pathogens.
He collaborates with institutions like the International Research Training Group 2172 (PRoTECT) and participates in the GGNB-Zugehörigkeit programs in Microbiology and Molecular Biology.
