KAWASAKI Shinji is a Professor in the Department of Life and Applied Chemistry at Gifu University, specializing in nanotechnology and materials science. His research focuses on carbon nanomaterials for advanced energy applications, including lithium-ion batteries, supercapacitors, and solar hydrogen generation. He earned his Ph.D. from Osaka University (1992) and has held academic positions at Nagoya Institute of Technology, Shinshu University, and Hokkaido University.
His research integrates:
- Design of carbon nanotube-based electrodes for energy storage
- Electrochemical confinement effects in nanomaterials
- Solar-driven catalytic systems for sustainable energy cycles
His publications emphasize electrochemical modification of carbon nanostructures, iodine redox chemistry for batteries, and nanocomposite synthesis. Awards include the Carbon Materials Society Academic Award (2019) and leadership roles in scientific committees. He leads projects on hetero-nanotube electrochemistry funded by JSPS Grants-in-Aid.
He directs a laboratory advancing nano-carbon applications and mentors graduate students in energy materials research, with ongoing work on high-pressure electrochemistry and photocatalytic CO₂ reduction.
