K. Melissa Smith Hayes is an Assistant Professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, specializing in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care. She practices general cardiology and heart failure care at The Heart Center at Meharry, serving underserved communities in Nashville. Dr. Smith has been teaching nursing since 2000, becoming full-time faculty in 2008.
