Jürgen Kurtz is a Professor at the University of Melbourne Law School since 2001. He previously held the Chair in International Economic Law (2018-2022) at the European University Institute's Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Studies and Department of Law in Florence, Italy. His research focuses on international economic law, including WTO frameworks, investment law, and their impact on regulatory autonomy and development strategies. He also explores legal hermeneutics, jurisprudential borrowing, and political economy theories in public international law.
Prof. Kurtz has authored influential books on ASEAN economic integration and WTO-investment law intersections. He serves as an arbitrator in ICSID proceedings and consults for organizations like the World Bank, European Union, and ASEAN Secretariat. He contributes to editorial boards of the Journal of International Dispute Settlement and Journal of World Investment and Trade.
