Jürgen Gschwend

Prof. Jürgen Gschwend holds the Chair of Urology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) since 2006. He is affiliated with the TUM School of Medicine and Health and serves as spokesperson for the Urological Oncology Working Group of the German Cancer Society (DKG). His roles include membership on the supervisory board of the University Hospital rechts der Isar and dean of studies at the medical faculty.

• Education: Medical studies at LMU Munich and the University of Ulm (1988), habilitation in 1998 on apoptosis induction in prostate cancer.
• Training: Clinical and scientific training at Ulm University Hospital under Prof. Richard Hautmann and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York (1995/1996).

Research focuses on clinical and surgical uro-oncology, including molecular oncology of bladder and prostate cancers, micrometastasis, and immune modulation. His work emphasizes translational research bridging clinical practice and molecular biology.

Awards include the Teaching Award of TUM’s Medical Faculty (2008), the Maximilian Nitze Prize (2000), and the Merckle Research Prize (2000).

Publications highlight advancements in surgical techniques, molecular diagnostics, and imaging in urologic cancers. He leads interdisciplinary teams investigating lymph node metastasis and novel therapeutic strategies.
