Jürgen Fromm serves as Artistic Lecturer at University of Kassel's Institute of Music since 2020, teaching electric and classical guitar with emphasis on practical popular music studies. A classically trained guitarist who studied under Manuel Barrueco, Eliot Fisk, and Narciso Yepes, he maintains an active dual career in academia and professional performance spanning over 35 years.
His artistic expertise centers on genre fusion and innovative ensemble work, encompassing classical guitar mastery alongside jazz, rock, world and fusion electric guitar performance. Key projects include the Medit Guitar Quartet's 'Images' (1995), 25 years as stage musician/director at Staatstheater Kassel, and boundary-pushing collaborations like the 2013-2014 Calcutta crossover project. His pedagogical approach integrates real-world performance through student-led initiatives such as the 2011 Piazzolla arrangements for campus festival and 2014 Reich premieres.
Notable recognition includes:
- Finalist, Federal Band Competition of Pop Academy Würzburg (1983)
Professor Fromm actively mentors through project-based learning, directing ensembles like 'Quilombo' and co-teaching specialized seminars on electric guitaristry with Systematic Musicology faculty. His work exemplifies the integration of academic instruction with professional artistic practice across classical and contemporary music domains.
