Jürgen Augustin

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Augustin serves as a Professor and Plant Nutritionist at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) in Müncheberg, Germany, within Research Area 1 Landscape Functioning. He leads the Working Group on Ecophysiology of Water and Matter Cycling, focusing on sustainable land management under climate change and digitalization megatrends.

His research specializes in agricultural biogeochemistry, with core expertise in developing ¹⁴C/¹⁵N isotope labelling techniques and gas exchange measurement systems. He conducts long-term greenhouse gas flux monitoring across critical ecosystems including wetlands, croplands, and forests to quantify carbon and nitrogen cycles.

This work directly addresses ZALF's strategic priorities in healthy soils, climate-resilient agriculture, and digital transformation of farming systems through empirical biogeochemical analysis of landscape-scale matter cycling.
