معرفی
Jörn Kersten is a Professor of Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Bergen's Department of Physics and Technology. His research focuses on SUSY phenomenology, astroparticle physics, cosmology, fermion mass models, and neutrino physics. He leads the Theoretical Physics research group and has supervised numerous doctoral students in particle physics research.
His education includes a PhD from the IBM Zurich Research Lab under Dr. H. Rohrer and Dr. S. Alvarado, focusing on Magnetic Force Microscopy. He held positions at Philips Research Lab Eindhoven before joining the University of Bergen.
Research interests span theoretical particle physics with emphasis on supersymmetry breaking mechanisms, dark matter models, neutrino oscillations, and cosmological implications of particle physics. Recent work integrates machine learning techniques for particle detection and explores connections between sterile neutrinos and dark matter.
Publications demonstrate a focus on beyond-Standard-Model physics, SUSY phenomenology, dark matter constraints, and neutrino physics. Recent articles explore fermion mass hierarchies and machine learning applications in particle detection.
Scientific awards: None listed in source materials.
Advising and grants: Supervised PhD candidates including Inga Strümke; participated in EU research programs and directed the Swiss Nanoscience Institute. Secured ERC Advanced Grants in 2012 and 2018.
Laboratory and research groups: Leads the Theoretical Physics research group at University of Bergen, focusing on quantum field theory, particle phenomenology, and computational physics methods.
