Jörgen Schäfer is a Researcher in Modern German Literature at the Department of German Studies, University of Siegen, since 2015. He holds a doctorate from Siegen's Intermediality Graduate School and has been a DAAD lecturer at Cardiff University (UK). His research focuses on pop literature, electronic literature, and media studies, with particular emphasis on the intersection of literature and popular culture. He coordinates the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB 1472) and leads subprojects like 'Pop, Literature and New Sensibility' and 'The Archive of German-Language Electronic Literature (ADEL)'.
His academic journey includes postdoctoral work in SFB 615 'Media Changes' (2002–2012), leading to his ongoing study of electronic literature. Key contributions include monographs on pop literature's origins, textual analysis of 'Tristesse Royale', and theoretical explorations of new sensibilities in literature. He collaborates in interdisciplinary teams such as AG4 'Popularity Resilience' and FW5 'Case studies around 1970'.
His recent publications (2023–2024) address transformations of the popular, canon formation, and methodological approaches to editing pop literature. He has edited peer-reviewed volumes and contributed to theoretical debates on 1960s cultural movements. His work bridges literary analysis with digital humanities and cultural sociology.
