Jörg Steinbach

Prof. Dr. Jörg Steinbach is a chemical engineer and academic leader with expertise in plant and process safety. He served as President of Technische Universität Berlin (2010–2014) and later as President of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg (2014–2018). His research focuses on oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) and safety engineering in chemical processes.

Education:

• Chemistry studies at TU Berlin (1975–1981)
• Doctorate in Technical Chemistry (1981–1985)
• Habilitation (1994)

Research Interests: Plant safety, OCM process optimization, and miniplant technology. His work integrates experimental and computational approaches to enhance reactor performance and risk assessment in chemical industries.

• City University London honorary doctorate (2013)
• National University of Water Management honorary doctorate (2013)

Grants & Labs: Led research in UniCat’s C4 program on plant safety. Involved in engineering education initiatives via Uni-assist and ASIIN accreditation boards.
