Sophie Thorak

Sophie Thorak is an academic staff member and doctoral student at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, specializing in art history and museum studies. She co-founded the Cottbus Workshops on the Art and Architecture of the GDR with Prof. Dr. Sylvia Claus in 2021 and served as the faculty's equal opportunities officer from 2020 to 2022.

• Studied art history and archaeology in Leipzig, Berlin, and Paris
• Former research trainee, press officer, and curator at the Lindenau Museum in Altenburg
• Focuses on artistic responses to global conflicts and historical events (e.g., Vietnam War) in the GDR and beyond

Her research explores the role of East German art in inter- and transnational cultural entanglement, particularly through her doctoral project on the late 1960s. She has contributed to exhibition organization, educational programming, and publication editing.
