Jörg Schmiedmayer

Prof. Dr. Jörg Schmiedmayer is a Principal Investigator at the Institute for Atomic and Subatomic Physics (Atominstitut der Österreichischen Universitäten), Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien). He has held academic positions across Austria, Germany, Japan, and China, including Full Professorships at Heidelberg University and Peking University.

• Education: Habilitation (1997, University of Innsbruck); Doctorate (1984-1987, TU Wien); Dipl. Ing. (1978-1983, TU Wien & University of Vienna).

His research focuses on nonequilibrium dynamics and relaxation in many-body quantum systems, particularly using cold atoms and quantum optics. He has pioneered studies in quantum thermodynamics, coherence, and novel quantum technologies via atom chips.
