Jörg Oechssler is a Full Professor of Economics at the University of Heidelberg, holding the Chair of Economic Theory II within the Department of Economics. He has been at Heidelberg since 2004, previously serving as Chair of the Department of Economics from 2005-2009. Before joining Heidelberg, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Bonn (1999-2004) and a Research Assistant at Humboldt University in Berlin (1994-1999).

He holds prominent editorial positions including Economic Journal Associate Editor (2024-present), Games and Economic Behavior Advisory Editor (2020-present), and previously served as European Economic Review Editor (2012-2017), Theory and Decision Coordinating Editor (2005-present), and Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization Co-Editor (2005-2012). His expertise is highly sought after as he serves as referee for dozens of major economics journals including American Economic Review, Econometrica, and Journal of Economic Theory.
Professor Oechssler teaches across the economics curriculum including Principles of Economics, Advanced Microeconomics, General Equilibrium Theory, Advanced Game Theory, and Industrial Organization. He leads the Behavioral Economics Experimental Laboratory (AWI Lab) at Heidelberg University, which conducts cutting-edge experimental research in economics and serves as a hub for experimental methodology training and research collaboration.
