Jörg Hartmann

Honorary Professor Jörg Hartmann is affiliated with the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, where he has served in the Textile Design program since 2012. He also holds the position of Head of the Fashion & Technology department at H. Stoll GmbH & Co. KG since 2002, demonstrating a strong connection between academic and industry work in textile design.

Professor Hartmann graduated from the University of Applied Sciences for Design in Pforzheim in 1990, establishing his foundation in design education. His academic journey expanded when he began guest lecturing in textile design at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart in 1993.

Jörg Hartmann specializes in textile and knitwear design, with particular expertise in innovative knitting technologies and applications. His work bridges traditional textile arts with modern technological approaches, focusing on both aesthetic and functional aspects of textile production. He has contributed significantly to the field through his academic teaching, industry leadership, and freelance design work for prestigious companies like Missoni SPA. His research interests encompass flat knitting techniques, technical textiles, and the integration of digital technologies in textile manufacturing.

Throughout his career, Professor Hartmann has shared his expertise internationally, delivering lectures at institutions including Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. He also runs his own company specializing in knitwear collection development, trade fair appearances, and fashion shows, while providing creative training in the field. His industry position at Stoll, a leader in flat-knitting machine technology with over 150 years of history, positions him at the forefront of textile innovation and sustainable fashion production.
