Jörg H. Hacker is a distinguished German microbiologist and molecular infection biologist. He served as President of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina since 2010 and previously as President of the Robert Koch Institute (2008–2010). He held the Professor rank at the University of Würzburg from 1988 to 2008, where he was Head of the Institute for Molecular Infection Biology (1993–2008). His research focuses on Microbiology, Molecular Infection Biology, and Molecular Analysis of Bacterial Pathogens.

Hacker earned his Ph.D. in Biology from Martin-Luther-University Halle (Saale), Germany (1979), and completed his Habilitation at the University of Würzburg (1986). He has held visiting professorships at the Sackler Institute for Advanced Studies, Tel Aviv University (2006), and research visits at the Institute Pasteur, Paris (2000, 2005).
