Abraham Nitzan is the Donner Professor of Physical Sciences and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds dual affiliations with Tel Aviv University (Emeritus) and has held visiting positions worldwide. His research focuses on theoretical chemical dynamics, light-matter interactions, and molecular electronics. Nitzan earned his Ph.D. from Tel Aviv University and has authored over 400 publications, including the textbook Chemical Dynamics in Condensed Phases.
- Education: B.Sc., M.Sc. (Hebrew University), Ph.D. (Tel Aviv University)
- Key Roles: Past Department Chair, Sackler Institute Director, and Dean at Tel Aviv University
Research interests include energy transfer processes, molecular dynamics in condensed phases, and quantum transport phenomena. His work bridges quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and nanoscience.
Notable awards include the Israel Prize in Chemistry, Earle K. Plyler Prize, and membership in the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Nitzan has supervised numerous students and postdocs, advancing molecular-level understanding of energy conversion and light-matter interactions.
Publications span topics like chiral molecular systems, plasmonics, and cavity quantum electrodynamics. His labs explore cutting-edge areas such as molecular junctions under strong light coupling and thermoelectric effects.
