Jörg Geldmacher

Jörg Geldmacher is a Senior Scientist at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel since 2011 and a Privatdozent (equivalent to Associate Professor) at Kiel University since 2014. Previously, he served as an Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M University (2008-2011) and Staff Scientist/Expedition Manager for the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (2007-2011). His research focuses on igneous geochemistry, geochronology, mantle dynamics, and submarine alteration of oceanic crust, with significant work on intraplate volcanism, large igneous provinces, and mantle plume geochemistry.

Research Themes: Geldmacher investigates mantle composition and dynamics through geochemical and isotopic analyses of oceanic volcanic rocks. Recent studies highlight potassium isotopes in ocean island basalts and HIMU mantle signatures in Atlantic volcanism.
