Jörg Fröbisch

Prof. Jörg Fröbisch holds a dual affiliation as Professor for Paleobiology and Evolution at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, a Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Research. He is the recipient of the prestigious Sofja Kovalevskaja Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His research focuses on the evolutionary history of amniotes, particularly Synapsida (the lineage leading to mammals), and their ecological roles across mass extinction events. Key themes include the diversification of terrestrial vertebrate ecosystems and the impact of environmental crises on biodiversity.

Research projects include studies on synapsid evolution in the Permian-Triassic Beaufort Group, Permian Gondwana fauna, and early ichthyosaur trophic networks.
