Jörg Frohnmayer is a Lecturer in New Media at Merz Akademie, specializing in Virtual Reality, Information Visualization, and Human-Computer Interaction. He works in the university's virtual reality laboratory and has collaborated with institutions like Fraunhofer IAO on projects such as the IKONE initiative and MEDIAGLOBE. Frohnmayer holds a European Media Master of Arts degree and has contributed to exhibitions at venues including the Württembergischer Kunstverein and Transmediale Berlin.
His research focuses on immersive systems for data exploration, urban noise visualization, and networked identity. Key projects include developing VR demonstrator systems for financial data analysis (2005), urban technology interfaces (2010-2011), and virtual human model comparisons in the VISUM laboratory (2008-2009). Frohnmayer has also led educational initiatives like the Talentschool VR workshop for gifted students (2010).
While his publications since 2005 emphasize technical implementations of VR systems and information visualization methodologies, they consistently bridge artistic practice with computational approaches. His work appears in conference proceedings for JVRC, GFA, and EMA, with collaborations spanning universities, research institutes, and cultural institutions.
