David Quigley is a Professor of Cultural Theory and Head of the Master Department at Merz Akademie Stuttgart. He holds a painting background from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and philosophy studies from Paris and University of Vienna. His research focuses on cultural history, text analysis, and critical theory.
- Teaching since 2001 in cultural studies
- Collaborated with Athens School of Fine Art, Hochschule für Künste Bremen, and Vilnius Academy of Arts
Key projects include the Hydra theory project (2023) and his History of Art on Record lecture series available on vinyl and video. Published extensively in art journals including Afterall and Spike Art Quarterly.
His 2006 monograph on Carl Einstein remains a seminal work in modernist art critique. Advised graduate student Jürgen Riethmüller who graduated in 2017.
