Dr. Jyu-Lin Chen is a Professor in the Family Health Care Nursing department at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Nursing. With over two decades of academic and research experience, she has established herself as a leading expert in global health nursing with a focus on Chinese and Chinese American populations.

Dr. Chen's research primarily focuses on childhood obesity prevention and healthy lifestyle promotion in Asian Pacific regions and Chinese immigrant communities in the United States. Her work addresses the critical global health challenge of childhood obesity, which affects approximately 170 million children worldwide, with particularly high prevalence in low and middle-income countries. She has conducted a series of 15 research studies over 13 years to build knowledge on obesity prevention in Chinese children and immigrant Chinese children.
Her publication record shows a strong focus on diabetes prevention, obesity management, and health disparities among vulnerable populations, particularly Chinese and Chinese American communities. Recent work emphasizes technology-based interventions (mHealth), lifestyle modification programs, and culturally appropriate approaches to health promotion.

Dr. Chen is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of researchers. She has mentored students from various countries including China, Korea, Japan, India, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand. Her mentoring extends to both students and early-career faculty/scientists, with availability to mentor on career development, research, and research projects. She teaches in both Master's and PhD courses at UCSF.
Her work is affiliated with the UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences, and she has conducted extensive research in China, focusing on nutrition & food security and non-communicable diseases.
