Dr. Juyeon Yoo is an Assistant Professor of TESOL and Linguistics in the Department of English at Ball State University. She holds a PhD in Multilingual Language Education from The Ohio State University (2023), an MA in English Language Education from Seoul National University (2017), and a BA in Linguistics from University College London (2014). Her research focuses on second language writing, identity negotiation, and racial justice in language education. She has received significant recognition including the 2022 Racial Justice Grant and Alpha Support Research Grant (2023-2024).
Dr. Yoo's teaching spans undergraduate and graduate TESOL and applied linguistics courses such as ENG 437 (TESOL Methods) and ENG 601 (Research in English Studies). Her work emphasizes equity and diversity, particularly addressing racial marginalization's impact on language learners. She has secured multiple grants and published in journals like Journal of Language, Identity & Education and Routledge book series.
Her research projects include investigations into synthesis writing processes, L2 identity trajectories across four countries, and the intersection of racial justice with language learning investment. She actively contributes to TESOL teacher education and has presented invited talks on multilingualism and social justice.
