Juulia Tikkanen is a Doctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Lapland, affiliated with the Sustainable Naturecultures and Multispecies Future (SuMu) research group and the Just Green Transition initiative. She is a Collaborative Investigator in the REBOUND AK project (2023–2026), focusing on resilient Arctic futures. Her research integrates tourism studies, geopolitical analysis, and environmental policy, with an emphasis on the European Arctic.
Her work explores topics such as geopolitical tensions in Arctic industries, sustainable tourism models (e.g., Slow City concepts), and degrowth strategies. She has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and co-authored commissioned reports on scenario assessments and social licensing in Arctic contexts.
Tikkanen actively engages in academic dissemination through conferences and workshops, including organizing the Arctic Café event on just transitions and presenting at tourism sustainability forums. Her projects emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration to address climate change and social equity challenges.
