Minna Nousiainen is a University Teacher and Doctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Lapland. She is affiliated with the Discipline-specific doctoral programme Sustainable Naturecultures and Multispecies Future (SuMu) and the Multidimensional Tourism Institute. Her research focuses on tourism studies, emphasizing mobility practices, proximity tourism, and the intersection of tourism with environmental and sociocultural contexts.
Since 2017, she has been involved in 22 projects, including the Northern Tourism series (2025–2026) and Pyörät pyörimään (2025–2027), both co-funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education and other entities. Her work explores themes like national park dynamics, rush hour tourism, and critical approaches to tourism research.
Collaborating with institutions globally, her research spans Arctic encounters, mobility in peripheral regions, and sustainable tourism frameworks. She has presented at conferences such as 'Being-in-common in the changing Arctic' (2024) and 'Mobile Encounters in Peripheral Tourism Landscapes' (2023).
