Jutta Allmendinger

Jutta Allmendinger is a Professor of Educational Sociology and Labor Market Research at the Humboldt University of Berlin since 2007 and holds an Honorary Professorship of Sociology at the Free University of Berlin since 2012. She served as President of the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) until August 2024 and led the doctoral program Good Work in a Transformative World since 2016. Her affiliations also include advisory roles in national and international institutions.

Allmendinger’s research spans sociology of the labor market, education, social inequality, social policy, organizational sociology, and life course sociology. She focuses on gender equality, work-family balance, educational reform, and social cohesion, often analyzing systemic issues in education and labor markets. Her work highlights structural barriers, such as the tax-splitting system in Germany, which perpetuates gender disparities.

Her recent publications (2018–2021) examine precarious employment, gender equality, and educational systems. Books like Es geht nur gemeinsam! Wie wir endlich Geschlechtergerechtigkeit erreichen and Die Vertrauensfrage. Für eine neue Politik des Zusammenhalts emphasize societal changes needed for gender equity and trust in governance.

Allmendinger leads the Doctoral Program 'Good Work' and has advised numerous students indirectly through her roles at WZB and Humboldt University. Her projects include the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) and The Legacy Study, analyzing societal visions. She advocates for a 32-hour workweek to address gender imbalances and promote work-family integration.
