Justyna Kotowicz

Dr. Justyna Kotowicz is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Pedagogy, Jagiellonian University, specializing in bilingual education and sign language research. She holds a PhD in Social Sciences (Pedagogy) from Jagiellonian University (2016) and a Master's in Psychology from SWPS University (2017). Her work bridges deaf education, cognitive science, and linguistics.

Her research examines the linguistic and cognitive processes of deaf and hearing individuals using sign language, with a focus on bilingual education and reading skills in deaf populations. She has led international collaborations comparing French and Polish Sign Language development in children.

Kotowicz's recent publications investigate neural mechanisms of sentence reading in deaf signers, bimodal bilingualism's impact on executive function, and sign-spoken language contact in Polish families. Her work integrates neuroscience, psycholinguistics, and educational theory.

She has participated in projects funded by the French Government Scholarship, National Science Centre (NCN), and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNISW), including creating a dictionary of legal/medical terms in Polish Sign Language.
