Justin Paulson is a Professor of Political Sociology and Social Theory at Carleton University’s Institute of Political Economy (IPE) within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He teaches courses on Marxist theory, social movements, and political economy. His research focuses on settler colonial capitalism, critical theory, and social change, with a SSHRC-funded project examining the forestry industry’s impact on Indigenous communities in the Ottawa Valley. Paulson is an award-winning educator, having received teaching awards in 2013, 2016, and 2021–2022.

Research interests include: Marxist theory, anti-colonial struggles, political economy of capital, and racial capitalism. He co-edits Studies in Political Economy and serves on advisory boards for Alternate Routes and Moment. Recent courses include Contemporary Sociological Theory (Marxist Tradition) and Sociology of Trumpism.
His work bridges theory and activism, with projects analyzing Indigenous resistance, socialist feminist strategies, and the contradictions of austerity policies. Paulson is actively supervising doctoral and postdoctoral researchers focusing on settler colonialism in Canada and Marxist-Indigenous theoretical intersections.
