Justin Omar Johnston is an Associate Professor in the English Department at Stony Brook University. His research focuses on contemporary Anglophone literature with emphases on biopolitics, feminist body theory, postcolonial critiques, and environmental humanities. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2012) with a graduate minor in Philosophy of the Body.

His book Posthuman Capital and Biotechnology in Contemporary Novels (2019) examines fictionalized biotechnological bodies across 21st-century literature. Current research includes Helio Fictions: Imagining Solar Power in Contemporary Literature, exploring solarity and plant life in novels. He teaches courses on postcolonial literature, science-and-literature intersections, and critical theory.
Key publications analyze works by Zadie Smith, Kazuo Ishiguro, Indra Sinha, and Margaret Atwood. Awards include the Vollrath Dissertation Fellowship and Wisconsin Distinguished Graduate Fellowship.
