Justin Nguyen

Dr. Justin Nguyen serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) School of Medicine. He completed his medical training at American University of Antigua College of Medicine, followed by residency in General Psychiatry at Louisiana State Health Science Center, and fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at UTHealth Houston.

Dr. Nguyen's research focuses on neuroinflammation in stroke recovery, examining the complex roles of microglia and immune cells in both acute injury and chronic recovery phases. His work investigates how CD13 protein facilitates immune cell migration after stroke and how the equilibrium between microbiota- and host-derived ligands of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor affects stroke outcomes in aged models.

His publication record shows a strong trend toward understanding the dual nature of post-stroke immune responses - recognizing that while certain inflammatory processes cause acute damage, they may also be essential for long-term recovery.
