Justin Marcarelli

Justin Marcarelli serves as an Adjunct Instructor in the Accounting department at the University of Connecticut's School of Business, teaching in the Certificate in Accounting Fundamentals program. Concurrently, he is the Controller for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League and PNC Arena, overseeing day-to-day accounting operations while holding a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in North Carolina.

Mr. Marcarelli's professional trajectory bridges public accounting and elite sports finance. After beginning his career at local public accounting firms specializing in government/non-profit auditing and small business accounting, he transitioned to Major League Soccer as DC United's accountant, managing all financial aspects including the stadium construction accounting completed in July 2018. His current role with the Carolina Hurricanes involves comprehensive oversight of budgeting processes, financial reporting, analysis, and external audits across the organization. His teaching and professional expertise converge on accounting fundamentals applied within complex sports industry environments, with specific emphasis on financial reporting integrity, audit coordination, and budget management in high-stakes organizational settings.

Outside professional commitments, he volunteers as a youth soccer coach through the YMCA and participates in multiple adult recreational sports leagues.
