Justin L. Rhodes is an Associate Professor in the Music Production and Engineering (MP&E) department at Berklee College of Music, where he mentors the next generation of music creators. He brings over two decades of industry experience as a Grammy Award-winning producer, filmmaker, and author into the classroom, blending practical insight with creative pedagogy.
His research and professional interests span music production, hip-hop studies, film and television scoring, and creative entrepreneurship. Rhodes emphasizes empowering students to transform their artistic passion into sustainable careers, drawing from his own journey in the music industry.
Rhodes has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award (2024), GMA Dove Award, Billboard Music Award, and Stellar Award, recognizing his contributions to music and culture. He is also a Gold-selling producer, notably for Lecrae’s acclaimed album Anomaly.
As a filmmaker and cultural innovator, Rhodes directs feature films such as It's a Wonderful Plight (2021) and King of Dallas (2024), and created House of Beats, the first reality TV show for music producers. His work consistently centers on Black storytelling and redefining narratives in post-apocalyptic and urban genres. He is also the author of These Beats Ain’t Free and its sequel These Dreams Ain’t Free (2025), which serve as guides for aspiring producers.
