Justin Gammage

Dr. Justin Gammage serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Africana Studies at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) within the College of Arts & Humanities, while also chairing the Dymally Fellows Program at the Mervyn Dymally African American Political and Economic Institute.

His academic journey began with a B.A. in Africana Studies from CSUDH, followed by M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in African American Studies from Temple University, where his dissertation examined social protest against economic racism.

Dr. Gammage's research centers on African American political economy, specializing in historical and contemporary social movements that confront systemic barriers to Black community health. His work critically analyzes protest strategies for dismantling institutions perpetuating racial inequities while developing sustainable alternative economic models for justice. He investigates intersections between economic racism, Black Studies in higher education, and viable pathways for Black economic development and stability.

Through the Douglass-Bethune Black graduation committee and Dymally Fellows Program, he actively mentors students in research presentation and public policy leadership. His community engagement extends to Los Angeles-area youth service initiatives, embodying his commitment to translating academic work into tangible community impact.
