Justin Fair

Dr. Justin Fair is a Professor in the Madia Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), affiliated with the Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. He holds a BS from Virginia Tech, an MS from IUP, and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Connecticut. His research focuses on green chemistry methodologies and organolithium-mediated synthesis, emphasizing cost-effective, waste-reducing processes for pharmaceutical applications. He teaches courses ranging from general chemistry to advanced organic chemistry and research seminars.

Dr. Fair has secured over $1.8 million in grants, including leadership roles in projects like the S-COAM initiative and studies on methamphetamine dependence treatments. His awards include the 2018 Distinguished Service Award and multiple teaching excellence recognitions. He actively promotes interdisciplinary teamwork and industry-aligned curricula, addressing skill gaps highlighted in his studies with chemical industry professionals.

His laboratory develops innovative synthetic routes using water as a solvent and explores organolithium reagents for regio- and stereo-selective reactions.
