Ashley Bartelson is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Connecticut. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut (2011) and a B.S. from Stonehill College (2005). Her research focuses on organic chemistry, particularly oxidation reactions, organolithium chemistry, and catalytic methodologies. She has supervised undergraduate research projects including studies on oxoammonium salt oxidations and thioketone reactions. Her work bridges experimental and computational approaches to understand reaction mechanisms in organic synthesis.
Key research areas include the development of novel oxidation catalysts, mechanistic studies of organolithium reagents, and the design of efficient synthetic protocols for imines and nitriles. Her publications highlight advancements in nitroxide-catalyzed oxidations and the contrasting behaviors of ketones vs. thioketones in organolithium reactions.
Bartelson has presented findings at conferences such as the International Symposium on Carbanion Chemistry (Florence, 2010) and the American Chemical Society National Meetings. Her pedagogical contributions include co-authoring a Journal of Chemical Education article on graduate student symposium planning.
