Justin D. Kreuter

Justin D. Kreuter, M.D. is a Consultant Lecturer in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He serves as Program Director for the Transfusion Medicine Fellowship, Medical Director of the Blood Donor Center, Associate Medical Director of the Histocompatibility Laboratory, and Laboratory Director at Federal Medical Center — Rochester.

Dr. Kreuter earned his MD from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 2007, completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and finished his Transfusion Medicine Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in 2013. He is board-certified in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology (2011) and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine (2013).

His research focuses on transfusion medicine, particularly the treatment of acquired coagulopathies, transfusion support for patients refractory to platelet transfusion, and laboratory medicine support for transplant patients. His work spans clinical applications, educational innovations, and quality improvement in transfusion practices.

Dr. Kreuter's publications reflect his expertise in transfusion medicine education, platelet refractoriness, HLA compatibility, and laboratory support for transplant patients. His recent work emphasizes innovative teaching methods, social media for medical education, and adapting laboratory medicine education during the pandemic.
