Justin Carpentier is a researcher at Inria Paris, where he leads robotics research as part of the Willow joint project team. Five years ago, robotics was not a developed research area at the Inria Paris center, but under his leadership, it has grown significantly into a recognized research domain worthy of European Research Council funding.
His research focuses on robotics with particular emphasis on developing free and open source software frameworks for next-generation robotic systems. Carpentier emphasizes that robotics is fundamentally a collaborative discipline rather than solitary work, requiring true teamwork to advance the field toward developing truly autonomous robots. His work bridges theoretical research with practical implementation in open source environments.
- ERC Starting Grant recipient (2024)
- Member of Willow joint project team at Inria Paris
- Research focus on open source robotics software development
His ERC-funded research aims to establish Inria as a leading contributor to open source robotics software ecosystems, with potential applications across multiple domains requiring autonomous systems.
