His research centers on pediatric endocrinology with specialized focus on bone health disorders and childhood obesity. He leads interdisciplinary collaborations with Monash Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, investigating alternative weight management approaches for obese teenagers with metabolic complications through NHMRC-funded projects. His work bridges pediatric and adult bone health services, addressing critical gaps in transitional care.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals dominant themes in metabolic bone disorders (40%), obesity interventions (30%), and genetic endocrinology (30%). Key trends include innovative clinical trials for adolescent obesity, genetic investigations in disorders of sex development, and translational research on vitamin D metabolism. His work increasingly incorporates molecular diagnostics and longitudinal cohort studies.
Scientific Recognition:
- Best Basic Science Prize (2005)
- Pfizer Career Development Award (2003)
Brown leads multiple active research projects including a Phase 3 osteogenesis imperfecta trial (2024-2029), PIONEER TEENS diabetes study (2023-2028), and LUM-201 growth hormone deficiency trial (2021-2026). His NHMRC-funded alternate day fasting trial for adolescent obesity demonstrates significant grant acquisition capability. As a Principal Investigator, he coordinates interstate and international collaborations across Australia, Malaysia, and the US.
His research extends through the Monash Children's Hospital endocrinology unit where he directs clinical studies on bone health transitions between pediatric and adult services. Collaborations span the Monash Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, adult bone health specialists, and international networks addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and wellbeing.
