Dr. Jussi Baade serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Geography, Friedrich Schiller University Jena. He holds key roles including ERASMUS+ Coordinator for Geography, Coordinator of excursion funding management, and member of the Academic Council with extensive service on university Senate committees through 2022.
His research focuses on:
- Geomorphology (high mountain morphology, fluvial dynamics, soil erosion)
- Geoarchaeology (human-environment interactions in the Holocene)
- Geoecology (soil water balance, material cycles)
- Applied Geomorphology (soil/water protection)
- Remote sensing for land degradation monitoring
Current work centers on the SALDi project tracking land degradation in South Africa through the BMBF-funded SPACES program. Past research includes DFG-funded studies of Kruger National Park erosion (2013-2016), Peru's coastal desert morphodynamics (2008-2011), and Thuringian Basin soil systems (1994-1998).
Administrative leadership spans Senate Research Committee membership (2016-2022), Faculty Council representation (2007-2010, 2016-2019), and accreditation coordination for Geography B.Sc./M.Sc. programs (2005-2006).
