Jurrien Bijhold

Jurrien Bijhold serves as a lecturer-researcher at Leiden University of Applied Sciences within the Computer Science program, where he leads the E-Discovery research group. His appointment expands the institution's research capabilities into mixed reality and virtual reality applications, building upon his 25+ year career at the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) where he developed ICT solutions for police and judicial systems.

He holds a PhD in Physics and has maintained continuous engagement with ICT evolution since the 1980s, with particular focus on multimedia systems and serious gaming applications. His academic journey represents a strategic transition from forensic practice to technology education while maintaining applied research relevance.

Research interests center on Mixed Reality and Virtual Reality implementations for crime scene visualization and accident analysis, supported by expertise in knowledge management and proficiency testing. His February 2020 launch of the Mixed Reality in Research minor demonstrates commitment to training students in deploying these technologies for real-world safety and justice scenarios, emphasizing practical problem-solving over theoretical exploration.

The E-Discovery research group under his leadership develops concrete tools for forensic contexts, fostering student collaboration on projects that reconstruct crime scenes and accident scenarios.
