معرفی
Dr. Jurgen Gailer is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Science. He is also a member of the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute. His research focuses on bioinorganic chemistry, toxicology, and analytical chemistry, employing advanced techniques like SEC-ICP-AES to study metal metabolism and toxicity mechanisms in blood plasma. He holds a PhD from Karl-Franzens University (1997) and has held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Arizona and GSF National Research Center for Environment and Health. Previously, he led biopharmaceutical production at Boehringer Ingelheim.
Education:
- PhD in Chemistry, Karl-Franzens University, Graz, 1997
- M.S. in Chemistry, Karl-Franzens University, Graz, 1992
Research Interests: Investigating toxic metal/metalloid interactions in blood plasma, bioanalytical methods for metalloprotein analysis, and disease diagnosis via metallomics. Key projects include:
- Elucidating As-Se and Hg-Se metabolite roles in chronic toxicity
- SEC-ICP-AES for diagnosing Cu/Fe/Zn-related disorders (e.g., Wilson’s Disease)
- In vitro transport studies of metal/metalloid compounds in plasma
Awards:
- Erwin Schroedinger Fellowship (University of Arizona)
- Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (Germany)
Teaching & Labs: Teaches analytical chemistry and biochemistry courses. Active in the Metallomics research group and collaborates with the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute on translational studies.
